Magazine Style Mimbo Clone

By Ron | February 12, 2008

In my previous post I talked about the Bradford magazine style theme. I didn’t realize it was 90% Mimbo coded with just a couple elements added from the other mentioned themes.

The original creator of Mimbo - Darren Hoyt talks about it here.

You will find comments from Darren, Justin Tadlock (Structure theme) and Brian Gardener (Revolution theme) on that page as well as a couple comments from the cloner Michael Oeser himself.

I considered removing the previous post, but I will leave it and put a link in it to this post.

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this topic, please leave a comment.

FWIW, I’ve rec’d several emails from people asking me not to give Branford a hard time since Oeser “wasn’t doing anything people in the forums hadn’t done”, aka, adding his own mods.

But — Oeser took it a step further by pulling code from other themes, renaming it, releasing it to the public and putting up a PayPal link — all without contacting any of the original theme authors.

This, I still feel, is the mark of a really green and untrustworthy theme author.
