Programs Needed For Wordpress Installation
Before you go running off to Wordpress.org and download the newest version of Wordpress®. You will need the following to install your new blog.
A unzipping utility, if you have Windows XP you should have one right in windows. If not I recommend www.winzip.com
You will also need an ftp program to upload the files to your domain. I recommend WSftp
Do you need a domain name and a host?
I use Registerfly.com GoDaddy for domain names and Hostgator for my hosting. Hostgator(and many other hosts) include a 1 click installation (actually two clicks) of Wordpress® making things much simpler too. If you want the 1 click installation, make sure whatever host you choose uses cpanel.
